LANDMARC Case Studies Hit a Milestone

Work on LANDMARC’s case studies passed a milestone this week, with sterilized soil sampling material sent from the Netherlands to the Kenya case study.

Despite the pandemic, work on all of LANDMARC’s 16 country case studies is now well underway. The studies will examine the impact of Land-based Mitigation Technologies (LMTs) across the world: from peat soils in the Netherlands to sustainable rice in Nepal.

Each case study now has a blog and a public information leaflet, which you can read on the LANDMARC website.

The LANDMARC case studies are based in social science approaches, studying LMTs already in use in the study countries and working in close co-operation with local stakeholders. Alongside this the project is using powerful Earth observation technologies to monitor the effectiveness of LMTs across our study counties.

The project will also use a suite of climate, land-use, and economic simulation models. These will provide estimates of the climate impacts of scaling up candidate LMTs, and also illuminate the environmental, human and economic impacts of their potential deployment.
